Camping at Easter time

Camping at Easter time can be a great way to spend the holiday with family and friends. Here are some tips to help make your Easter camping trip safe and enjoyable:

Check the weather forecast: Before you set out, make sure you have checked the weather forecast for the area you will be camping in. Be prepared for all types of weather, including rain and cold temperatures.

Camping in the rain: Camping in the rain can be just as much fun as camping in the sun. SA forecast for Easter 2023 is rain, but don’t let that dampen your spirits, there are still plenty of activities you can do, for all ages, if you are prepared;

Head off 4WDing and explore the surroundings, or visit some local attractions. If it’s really pouring down, and your near a town with a pub, head to the pub for a meal, a good way to mix things up

Put on your water proof hiking gear and go for a bush walk, so you might get a little wet, but it can be fun for both young and old, the bush is a little different in the rain, and you might spot things you’ve never noticed before. Don’t forget your camera

Play board games under your camper awning or in your camper, plus you can put on your heater to keep warm

You can still have a campfire, just keep your fire wood covered or place it under your vehicle or camper to keep it dry, and put a camp oven on and cook up a nice warming stew

If your camped near a river, lake or by the sea, try some water activities like kayaking or stand up paddleboarding, even fishing can be fun, the fish don’t care about the rain, just layer yourself up, with warm clothing and a dry-as-a-bone, fill the thermos with some hot soup, and catch yourself some fish to cook on the campfire later.

Cuddle up in your sleeping bag and read a good book

Pack appropriate clothing: Make sure you pack appropriate clothing for the weather conditions you may face. It is always better to pack too much than not enough, so make sure you bring extra layers and waterproof gear.

Bring Easter treats: It wouldn’t be Easter without some treats, so make sure you bring along some Easter eggs or other sweets to share with your camping companions.

Plan your meals: Plan your meals ahead of time and bring along any necessary cooking utensils and equipment. Make sure you have enough food for everyone and that you store it safely to avoid attracting wildlife.

Respect the environment: When camping, it is important to respect the environment and leave no trace. Make sure you dispose of all rubbish properly and leave the campsite in the same condition as you found it.

Stay safe: Make sure you stay safe by following all camping safety guidelines. This includes being aware of fire safety, not leaving food out to attract wildlife, and using insect repellent to avoid insect bites.

By following these tips, you can have a safe and enjoyable Easter camping trip.
