Local business The Dirt Off Road Campers in Mount Barker, recently picked up the 2018 Dealer/Retailer of the Year Award (Silver Billy) from the Caravan and Camping Industries Association of South Australia (CCIASA).
The Dealer/Retailer of the Year Award recognises exceptional performance, and in particular, outstanding customer service and business practices. Husband and wife team Mike and Anita Pavey are thrilled with the result. Anita said, “It’s something we’ve been working towards for the last few years, so we’re delighted to be recognised, particularly as we’re rubbing shoulders with much larger entities.”
A written submission covering Business Growth & Achievements, Professional Development & Training, Customer Service, Marketing, Workplace Health & Safety, and Environmental factors is evaluated by peak industry body the CCIASA in assessing the award.
“It’s been a whirlwind year”, said Mike. “It was our first full year in the new premises in Mount Barker; we added 3 new manufacturers (BRS Offroad, Bushranger Campers & Travelander); and completed more professional development than ever before”, he added. “The Adelaide Hills Business Centre in particular has been a great resource”.
Established in 2014, The Dirt Off Road Campers grew from humble beginnings, selling a single brand from their backyard in Littlehampton. They moved soon after to a commercial property in Oborn Road, Mount Barker and in 2017 moved again to their new premises in Light Crescent, close to the Home of 12 Volt.
The Dirt specialise in Australian-made off-road campers including soft floor, hard floor, hybrid, tray back and roof top campers and small covered trailers, representing nine manufacturers, so there’s plenty to choose from.
Back in 2011, the Paveys’ fulfilled a dream to travel around Australia in a four-wheel drive and off-road camper trailer, focusing on remote destinations over a 13-month duration.
At the time, they were working as freelance contributors for some of Australia’s leading 4×4, caravan & camping magazines, encouraging others to get out and discover Australia’s amazing outback destinations and be properly prepared.
The trip identified an opportunity to provide sound advice and quality products designed for comfortable off-road touring. And so, their business was born!
