Take me to the River

Few locations impart the sense of serenity better than a remote riverside campsite, particularly those not accessible to the average caravan crowd.

Take the Murray River for example. Trace its path from the Murray Mouth in the Coorong and deep into Victoria and there are some awesome camping spots.

Every so often, you’ll find a bend in the river and a sandy patch to play on – great for launching paddlecraft from. And often being surrounded by river gums, there’s plenty of wood to feed the evening fire (where permitted).

Ideally, you want a place away from boat ramps so you don’t have ski boats roaring past all the time.

And if you’re self sufficient, don’t camp at spots with facilities – that’s another guaranteed crowd magnet.

Occasionally you can find a camping location on the backwaters of the river. Being shallow, its great for paddle craft and without the interruption of motor boats.

Here’s a few of our favourites. What about you? Do you have a top secret remote location?
